Introduction to Local History Research (Weekend)
Come and learn how to do local history yourself with the help and advice of our experienced local history tutors. We introduce you to the full range of materials we can use to bring history to life: books, old maps, place-names, local newspapers, oral history, photographs, music and song, archaeology records, archives - we even dabble a little in family history and genealogy. Exploring local history isn't difficult - it's just a matter of knowing where to look. This course will give you the confidence you need to undertake your own research and introduce you to some of the skills you will need to find out more about your family, the Highlands and Scotland. It's the detail of local history which sheds light on great national movements like the Highland Clearances and the Industrial Revolution - let our skilled tutors help you to open up a window on the past. From Nessie to Strathnaver, local history can be fun, as well as tragic, romantic, and educational. Itinerary Introduction to Local History Research Itinerary (Weekend) Highlights
