Tracing your Highland Family Tree (Week)

Itinerary
SaturdayWelcome reception, meet your holiday leader and companions. After dinner, settle into your comfortable hotel accommodation for the week, and perhaps take a stroll along Inverness's picturesque river banks and enjoy the sights of the town's Castle, Cathedral and Eden Court Theatre by night.
SundayWe visit the Highland Folk Museum, set against the stunning backdrop of the Cairngorms and River Spey in Newtonmore, to experience an award-winning reconstruction of Highland life from the 17th Century onwards.
MondayToday is spent in the Highland Council's Archives, Genealogy and Local History facilities in Inverness Library, where experienced staff will guide you through the wealth of reference materials available, and give you personal help with researching your Highland ancestors and their lives.
TuesdayA day to develop further the research begun yesterday, again with the expert staff of the Archives and Genealogy service.
WednesdayWe visit Culloden Battlefield near Inverness, site of the 1746 battle which heralded the breakdown of the Highland clan system and the beginning of mass-scale emigration from the Highlands. After lunch, we continue to Fort George, one of a series of forts built after Culloden to subdue rebellious Highlanders.
ThursdayOn the move again today, we travel further north, through some beautiful scenery, to Strathnaver in Sutherland. This beautiful but lonely glen was once home to a cluster of thriving communities who were cleared from their homes in the 19th Century. A guided tour around one of these abandoned townships - Rosal - will show you how their inhabitants lived and worked. We return to Inverness via Croick Church, where the Glen Calvie people sheltered after their eviction. See their names scratched on the church window and hear the story of the people who were cleared from this lovely area.
FridayA final day in Inverness Library to round off your current phase of research and perhaps set out the way ahead for further investigations.
SaturdayAfter breakfast, an opportunity for some shopping or sightseeing in Inverness if you wish, then time to head homeward.
