General Information about Your Holiday

Rowan Tree Ltd holidays and short breaks are designed for people who would like to learn about particular aspects of Highland heritage, culture and wildlife. No previous knowledge is needed and the emphasis is always on enjoyment and relaxation. Our holidays are not study tours - they are designed to leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and, we hope, keen to return to the Highlands with us again soon!

We research our holidays in detail, from the subject matter and places to visit, to the transport and accommodation used. We demand high standards both from our own staff and from the hotels and transport providers we work with to put together your holiday package.

We use good, locally-managed hotels with a Scottish Tourist Board rating of at least three stars. All holidays include breakfast and dinner each day as well as all transport needed to follow the itinerary, admission charges and the services of a knowledgeable and approachable holiday leader. Lunch (sometimes a packed lunch) is included in all touring holidays. Crafts and local history holidays include morning and afternoon teas and coffees, and lunch.

We welcome customers with disabilities, but, particularly in remoter areas, access can sometimes be a problem, so please contact us in advance so that we can ensure that we can meet your requirements before you make your booking.

You must, at the time you book, let us know if anyone in your group suffers from any medical condition, or is taking any medication, which may affect his/her ability to undertake the weekend break or holiday he/she has chosen. Please refer to our booking information and conditions and to the details of individual holidays.

We strongly advise you to take out insurance for the duration of your holiday in respect of cancellation and curtailment, injury, death, lost baggage and money, liability, medical expenses and rescue /repatriation. You can arrange this yourself or through Rowan Tree Ltd.

Weather in the Highlands, although not the cold, snow-bound climate which many visitors seem to expect, is unpredictable. The "layer" approach works best for clothing - bring warm jumpers and/or a fleece to slip on if it turns chilly, and always have waterproof clothing available just in case….

All of our touring holidays and short breaks involve some walking - usually over short distances and easy terrain. Comfortable, robust shoes or walking boots are strongly recommended! Please see the individual holiday details for full descriptions of the walking involved.

If you will be visiting the west and north of the Highlands with us, then beware the Highland Midgie! Insect repellent is strongly recommended.

If you have particular dietary requirements please let us know at the time of booking. A vegetarian option will always be available, and we will make sure that our hotels are aware of any other requirements.

Please remember that our tours visit some of the more remote areas in the Highlands. Shops, banks, automated telling machines, post offices, etc may not be in plentiful supply, and opening hours can be limited. We advise you to pack accordingly!

A final tip: remember to bring your camera and plenty film - you'll see scenery, ancient buildings and wildlife on your holidays which you'll want to remember for ever!
